The #5 ranked Days Creek volleyball team swept Yoncalla in straight sets on Tuesday night in a Skyline League match. Set scores were 25-16, 25-13, 25-13. The Wolves (7-1, 3-0) are undefeated in Skyline League play through three games. Shandiin Newton had four aces for the Wolves. Moriah Michaels had six digs and Joleen Crume had eight kills. Megan Kruzic had 16 assists for the Wolves. Days Creek plays North Douglas at home on Thursday at 6 p.m. This weekend Days Creek will play at St. Paul for a tournament. The No. 10 ranked North Douglas volleyball team swept Elkton in straight sets Tuesday night in a Skyline League match in Drain. Set scores were 25-13, 25-11, 26-24. Natalie Draeger had five kills for North Douglas. Brooklyn Williams, Nicki Derrick, and Rilie-jo Olds each added four kills. Williams and Derrick also both had five aces. Samantha MacDowell added 11 digs. The Warriors (9-3, 4-0) have won all four of their Skyline League matches. The Elks (5-2, 4-1) had one every league match up until Tuesday night. North Douglas will match up with another undefeated Skyline League opponent Thursday night at Days Creek. Elkton plays at Riddle next Tuesday. “We played great. It will be a good matchup with Days Creek,” North Douglas coach Emily Reed said. “We will really need to limit our mistakes and their runs and play with confidence in a tough environment on the road.” The Umpqua Valley Christian volleyball team (2-4, 1-3) defeated New Hope Christian in five sets for their first Skyline League win of the year. Set scores were 24-26, 21-25, 25-14, 25-22, 15-12. Layla Pappas had 19 assists, 13 kills, 19 digs and seven aces to lead the Monarchs. Gianna Landes had 12 kills, 19 digs and five aces. Tylie Bendele had eight kills and Sydney Smith had 18 points served. “The girls struggled the first two sets but were able to pull it together, dig deep and play as a team to get the win,” UVC coach Candice Renyer said. “They improve a little bit every game and I’m really proud of them.” UVC plays Camas Valley on Thursday at home at 4 p.m. Elsewhere in Skyline League play Riddle (3-4, 3-1) beat Pacific in straight sets 25-17, 25-12, 26-24.
